Ferrovie dello Stato, which manages infrastructure and services on the Italian rail network, has proposed the launch of a new high-speed train route connecting Venice and Rome’s main airport: Fiumicino.
As a part of the new plan, the train route, operated by Frecciarossa, would then go on to Milan Malpensa airport, offering tourists a wealth of travel options. In addition, connections between Rome Fiumicino airport and Florence, Pisa, La Spezia and Genoa have also been suggested to further enhance the potential integration between rail and air transport to/from and around Italy.
But that’s not all: the plan also proposes the improvement of existing routes, such as shorter journey times between Turin, Milan and the Adriatic Coast.
In total, the new plan sees ten new high-speed trains (six Frecciarossa and four Frecciargento) and several new regional trains, thus forming over 200 new connections.
The plan is great news for tourists and commuters and it is highly anticipated that the proposal made by Ferrovie dello Stato will come to fruition in 2019.
